Beginning November 2nd, the City will initiate their 2009 annual leaf pick up program. Please see the map detailing the dates for pickup. The dates have been established to allow us to provide faster service and minimize potential street flooding issues. Please remember that if leaves are not at curbside during your scheduled dates, the crews will not have the opportunity to provide you with curbside service. Crews are not allowed to walk onto private property to retrieve leaves.

We ask citizens to not use bags for curbside pick-up. The potential for injured backs, the cost of disposal and the desire to minimize plastic bags in our landfills has prompted us to ask for your cooperation. Loose leaves, if placed in the street, must be away from the curb 12” to allow for water drainage to the catch basins. Only leaves will be picked up. Yard debris, lawn clippings and garbage will not be collected. Any items other than leaves will be left at curbside, with the homeowner responsible for disposal. Leaves and most plant materials from your yard or garden may be disposed of via the yard debris bins provided by your franchised hauler. Please have loose leaves at curbside on the first day of your scheduled pick up.

If crews get off schedule due to emergencies, severe winter weather, or extremely heavy leaf fall, please do not call the City. The crews will pick up leaves as soon as we are able to, according to the planned itinerary. We may also complete an area early, and move into the next area a day or two ahead of the area’s scheduled start date. This is to stay ahead rather than fall behind schedule. Again, please do not call the City. We will make every effort to pick up your leaves in a timely manner.

If you missed your scheduled pick up dates, or want to dispose of your leaves early, the City will again have “central drop days” at the Public Works Yard on Willamette Street (next to the Fieldhouse). The dates are: Saturday, November 7th, Saturday, November 21st, and Saturday, December 5th from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The information is also available on our website or you can call Public Works at 503-625-5722. There is no cost to drop your leaves at the Public Works Yard but we are accepting donations of canned goods that will be donated to the Helping Hands local food bank. Please help us beat last year’s canned goods donation of 358 lbs.
