Stella Olsen Park- Draft Preferred Option 2/11/08
In November 2006 the Parks Board asked staff to develop a Master Plan for the Stella Olsen Park. Staff has contracted OTAK to provide these services. The Master Plan process includes working with a Project Design Review Committee (PDRC) to determine the extent of proposed park improvements. The PDRC includes staff, members of the Parks Board, members of the Cultural Arts Commission and other community members, which will help to guide the design effort and make important decisions concerning park planning. Based on PDRC input a preliminary Master Plan of proposed improvements will be presented at an Open House for public review and comment. Based on feedback from the public forum, and a second review session with PDRC, the plan will be revised and finalized.
The Master Plan will serve as a guide for organizing and prioritizing future Stella Olsen Park development.
Possible improvements may include:
- new cover for the existing stage
- new stage access for performers
- new parking area
- a new permanent restroom
- stepped terraces at the sloping lawn area for increased usable space
- vegetation relocation to allow better views into the park
- expansion of the boardwalk/interpretive program
